Reckon We Need Big Red

This one, I just had to colour.

It’s also the first time I’ve ever drawn Mike Ryan transforming into Slamdance. I wrote one character describing  the transformation as a witness back when it was a novel-in-progress, but this is the first time I’ve directly tried getting the idea of how this character goes from six-foot regular human being to seven-foot-plus, red-PG-brother-of-Doctor-Manhattan onto paper.

And, no, I’ve yet to see or read Watchmen.

Lessons Learned for Next Time

  • I was thinking of doing some background for these panels, but – well, not that I ran out of time, I just wanted to spend said time on other things.
  • I’m still not one hundred percent satisfied with the dialogue, but I think I need to learn getting into a strip-a-week routine more than I need to learn about indulging my perfectionist whims.
  • Slamdance’s proportions and anatomy overall are a bit dodgy. Something else to bone up on!

Awesome Stuff I Can’t Wait to Try Again

  • Colouring was good fun; it really plays into the part of me that likes to fiddle and tweak.. I’ve been contributing the odd work to the Daily Spitpaint group on Facebook but the quality of the stuff everyone else puts up is kind of off-putting! (See above re. perfectionism.)
