Hubble, Hubble, Toil and Trouble

Okay, okay, I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist – well, actually, I’m not sorry, and I could’ve resisted, but I didn’t.

I have a good excuse, though: an interesting article on the potential death of the Hubble Space Telescope, written by Wil McCarthy, author of such SF titles as Bloom (which I’ve read, and it’s very funky) and The Collapsium (which I’ve not read). Is Hubble really worth the trouble of saving, or do existing alternatives allow us to ditch it in favour of new Moon and Mars initiatives?
